Canine III PT: Medical/Surgical Management of Orthopedic/NeurologicConditions and Physical/Electrotherpeutic Modalities
This course is required for physical therapists and physical therapist assistants, occupational therapists and actively enrolled students in these fields.
This course is not required of veterinarians, veterinary technicians or actively enrolled students in one of these fields but it can be used to fulfill the Canine V requirement.
Prerequisites
Participant must:
- Participant must be a veterinarian, veterinary technician, physical therapist, physical therapist assistant or an actively enrolled student in on of these fields.
- Successful completion of Canine I (if required) and II P.T.
Course Description:
This course will provide the participant with the basic skills necessary to perform an orthopedic and neurologic evaluation on the dog. Commonly seen orthopedic and neurologic conditions and their medical and surgical management will be included, especially as they relate to rehabilitation. Basic pharmacology related to pain management; bandaging/splinting techniques, therapeutic exercise and outcome measures are also covered in this course as well as canine-specific applications of electrotherapeutic modalities. Techniques will be practiced on dogs.
